The lotus flower is a powerful and inspiring metaphor for life. It's said that the most beautiful lotus flowers grow in the stinkiest of water. The stinkier the water, the more fragrant the bloom. Although it's roots are buried in the muddy waters, it's beautiful blooms rise above it all, unsullied.
The lotus has been a symbol of our ability to rise above the "muddy waters" of life. It's in the fertile soil of hard times that we might learn and grow, through the fires of tribulation, that our character can be forged.
So, during these challenging times of social and political unrest, I hope you find what it means for you to be grounded, rooted in truth, whilst reaching upward, out of the muddy waters, full of hope, wonder and love.
Here's a YouTube video I found with a beautiful practice of the Lotus Mudra (Hand gesture/seal). It's great for stretching the forearms, wrists and hands.
