The Wisdom of Our Elders

Growing older has never seemed glamourous. It's natural for us to avoid thinking about aging, and when we do, we think of wrinkles, grey hair, and achy joints.

As for my own personal journey, I have found yoga to be a great tool that allows me to age with less aches and pains. It doesn't stop the wrinkles or grey hair, but heck, I earned every one of them.

There is also a kind of wisdom that we gain as we age, and that should not be forgotten or overlooked. I have no doubt that you have knowledge now that you didn't have when you were in your teens or early 20's. And, the good news is, you just might be getting wiser with every passing year.

In many traditions, our elders were sought after for their wisdom. They are often respected, even revered. For this reason, I wanted to share with you a couple of very special older ladies.

One is Tao Porchon-Lynch. Wikipedia states, and this is true, "At age 101, she taught a weekly class in New York, and led programs across the globe. She was the author of two books, including her autobiography, Dancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being Through the Eyes of a Modern Yoga Master". She passed away on February 21, 2020, and was teaching yoga until only a few days before.

The other amazing lady is Joan MacDonald. In 2016, her blood pressure was unstable and she was not in good health. With the help of her daughter, she began eating well and exercising. Now, at 76 years old, she's power lifting and feeling amazing.

Here are some Youtube videos about these very special women. Please know, this is NOT about aesthetics, 'losing weight' or 'getting skinnier'. This is about quality of life, it's about feeling better so you can do the things you love, as long as you have breath.

I hope these ladies have put a smile on your face and inspired you, as they have me.
